Who Is LIBI?

Here's a look at what we do, plus details about the Superstorm Resource Expo on March 20.

Over the past 70 years Long Island Builders Institute (LIBI), a non-profit organization, has made Long Island a better place to live.  The organization includes over 500 members who represent, “commercial, residential, multi-families, rental buildings as well as general contractors” in order to better serve Long Island.

LIBI strives to create a balance between the economy, environment and development opportunities for all communities and all residents. For example, Long Island Home Builders Care Development Corp (LIHBCDC), a branch of LIBI’s not-for-profit Charitable Arms, builds new homes at a substantially reduced rate for Veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Donations by “Suffolk County, private donors, local municipalities and members of LIBI,” make LIHBCDC’s Building New Home for Returning Veterans program, possible.  Thanks to the generous contributions of land and dollars, plus reduced charges of materials and labor, these homes can be awarded to selected veteran applicants with an affordable price tag.

In 2011, the first new home within the New Home for Returning Veterans program was built for retired veteran, Sergeant Omar Domenech after land was donated to LIHBCDC. LIBI members worked together to turn this generous dream into a reality and have continued to push forward with the cause by completing their second home for Sergeant Ryan Donnelly.

To learn more about LIBI and the many services they provide, be sure to attend Superstorm Resource Expo, presented by Long Island Builders Institute, on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency Long Island in Hauppauge.

For more information regarding the show, visit http://www.libi.org or Superstorm Resource Expo at Facebook.com.

While your there, don’t forget to look for the LIBI seal of approval on a LIBI approved professional!

This article makes them sound like saints, however, many LIBI members (builders) have demonstrated over and over that they do not care about the environment nor the residents surrounding the areas they intend to make their money on. Who wrote this and why I wonder?

I write a blog. This is an ADvertisment. Let's see more blogs at KINGS PARK PATCH, and no more of these ads in the blog section.

Totally agree with you, Jan. A Blog is a Blog, an Ad is an Ad. Big difference between the two.
Maybe I should start a blog...

Exactly. I write my blog as a community service. It takes time, and I don't do it for profit. There seems to be a lot of these cookie cutter "infomercials" thinly disguised as "blogs" proliferating on Patch lately. They should be filtered out so real local voices can be heard.

Well said. I go to patch to get a feel for the pulse of the community. I feel who wants to read another "puff piece" as you so aptly put it, about tax tips, health tips and so forth that are simply enticements for business's. Now there's the "Suffolk Cooperative Library System" placing a flood of posts on Patch. This isn't written by a person. There is no community discourse. What's up with that??

Tell me what other district is as large as Sachem?????? No better yet tell me what district hasRead More almost 6,000 residents but less than half of them care enough to vote because they are to lazy to come out. Why because they don't think anything will happen? Or because of the i don't have a kid in the district so why should I pay attitude. Maybe you don't have a child in THIS district but you probably do in some other district or maybe a grandchild somewhere. I can't stand the fact that the CHILDREN .......mine or someone elses will suffer. For what?, being to cheap to pay an extra 500 per year. Yet you will see these same people in Starbucks or at the nail salon every 2 weeks or lets not go there and God forbid give up smoking cuz that's just so important. Before you think that I can afford to pay this 500 increase let me tell you my husband works 12 hour shifts 6 days a week and I work 40-50 hours per week as well. We have 2 grown children and 2 younger ones and we barely make ends meet. BUT I would rather take on a second or third job than see things my kids enjoy ripped from under them. ITS DISGUSTING !!!!!!! Anyone who did not take the time to come out and vote the first time or who did and voted no are disgraceful. Its about the KIDS NOT ABOUT OUR WALLETS!!!!!
