Will You Take Your Kids Trick-Or-Treating?

The Town of Smithtown suggests refraining from doing so Wednesday, but will you head out with the kids anyway?

The Town of Smithtown released an emergency alert late Tuesday night recommending parents refrain from trick-or-treating on Halloween with the damage Hurricane Sandy caused.

From the town's website:

If at all possible, please refrain from trick-or-treating in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy as there are many hazards on the streets. If you must do so, parents should not let children go out unattended.

The detrimental effects of Sandy are apparent throughout the town as trees and power lines are down and power is out through much of the area. But kids have one time a year to dress up in costume and go door-to-door for candy with their friends.

Will you take your kids out trick-or-treating or will you stay in? Would you give your kids permission to go out today?

Let us know in the comments.

I have some candy for the kids, but if parents were smart they would keep their kids in and do some homework ahead or have friends over for a quick party/craft time.

Is this decree coming from and old-timer who would be just as quick to tell those darn kids to "stay off mah lawn!"? Perhaps the parents of young teens that will go out should band together and go with them and make a small party out of it since parents will be supervising younger kids anyway. Anyway, take the kids out, be careful, and have fun.

I just had three funny kids :) but they live around the corner and with the stash they had, they mentioned they were not going too far. Im sure some towns have curfews and restrictions in place but you would have to check Bobby. Be safe.

I agree that we should keep our kids home this year. BUT there were a few adults with their kids in Commack this afternoon on Cameo Rd trick or treating. I know it's Halloween but these adults should have some concern for us many of us have had no power since Sunday night and we are trying to get our lives back in order by clearing the debris and fallen trees on our property - I am keeping my kids home as I don't think it is right to impose on anyone this year. My kids understand and agree with us and we will have a small Halloween party at our house. I am shocked that some people are so selfish this year and did not consider this.
