Talk Back: Greedy Holidays?

With new viral videos emerging from Black Friday 2012, a look at how dog-eat-dog holiday shopping can get.

Last Friday, Black Friday, millions of Americans participated in what has become a retail ritual after Thanksgiving: the stampede through all the sales available at nationwide stores.

Already news outlets have highlighted a number of all-out brawls captured on amateur video, including this melee at a Walmart. Such scrambles to get to the sales before supplies run out have already proven to have tragic results.

For today's Talk Back discussion we ask: Has the Black Friday "tradition" gotten out of hand? Or is the clamoring for newly opened crates of merchandise part of the fun, with just a few isolated incidents grabbing national headlines?

Black Friday hype has cemented the commercialization of Christmas and now has leaked into Thanksgiving. There is nothing left of the holidays that is not about money.
