Talk Back: Going to Town Hall For Holtsville Ecology Center?

Town Board Meeting provides fresh opportunity for residents to voice displeasure over budget cuts.

Residents will get a chance Thursday to speak out against the proposed Town of Brookhaven budget which will ostensibly close the Brookhaven Ecology Center.

Earlier this week the Brookhaven Wildlife Center, and independent organization that runs the ecology site, stated that although acting-Supervisor Kathy Walsh introduced a new budget that would keep the site open, because other inclusions and a tax increase is folded into the proposal it will likely be shot down by the town board.

Our question for today is: Do you plan to attend Thursday's Brookhaven Town Board meeting?

Feel free to take our poll or drop a comment below.

I, unfortunately can not attend due to work, BUT!!! I ask all those who are attending, SPEAK LOUD & CLEAR!!! THIS IS "OUR" PARK ! ! ! WE WILL DECIDE IF "OUR" CLOSES!!! N O T. THE TOWN BOARD. OUR TAX $$ HAS PAID FOR IT, NOT THE BOARD! ! ! IF THEY GO FORWARD WITH THE CLOSURE THEY SHOILD "ALL" START LOOKING FOR NEW JOBS CAUSE THEIR CAREERS IN "OUR" TOWN IS LIMITED.

Sigh! If these folks are voted out of their jobs, then more will just take their place. The only people who have time to run for office are those who can make money for their friends in development and businesses, and for the benefit of rich folks who have clout. The rest of the population has to work for a living, so they get run over by the big guys. Time and time again. Caring for nature doesn't provide big bucks for anyone. Providing public places for children doesn't put money in the pockets of the powerful. The more taxes we give, the more it will be funneled into the same old places--to make more money for the already rich. How many times have we crowded public venues with our requests only to be slapped down by those in power? (Answer: Nearly every time) So, no. I'm not going to the meeting. Sigh! Am I cynical? Yes. It's political season and that doesn't bring out the best in anyone.
