Sound Off: Should the U.S. Have Pulled Out of Iraq?

The war in Iraq officially ended on Thursday; do you agree with the move to pull all U.S. troops?

The United States will withdraw its final 4,000 troops from Iraq by the end of the year as one of country's most controversial military clashes comes to a close.

The U.S. military held a ceremony in Iraq Thursday, packing up a military flag, to officially mark the end of the war, which began nine years ago, according to a report in the Huffington Post.

President Barack Obama pledged during his run for office to wind down the Iraq conflict, which has claimed nearly 4,500 American lives.

"After a lot of blood spilled by Iraqis and Americans, the mission of an Iraq that could govern and secure itself has become real," U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta said at Thursday's ceremony.

Those skeptical of the troop pullout say it could easy lead to sectarian strife or an al Qaeda revival in Iraq.

What's your take? Is pulling all troops from Iraq now a good idea? Vote in the poll below and share your thoughts in the comments.

If Saddam saw a united front, europe,US china and russia regarding the weapons inspections, and other UN resolution that were in violation, he never would have held out. The war would never have been fought and terrorist states would know that western civilization is united against threats like these. Im not saying the war was good. What I am saying is that Saddam bribed everybody and made them too greedy to oppose any enforcement of UN resolutions already on the books. You are right, we have HUGE problems here that arent even being discussed. The media is only reporting 1/2 the story. We have met the enemy and he is us! America, we have a lot of work to do. Politicians are not going to solve any of our problems, its up to us! America is rich with natural resources that are untapped, our factories are idle. Our young population is doing what they are supposed to do, (education)but its not working. Their training(education) is in many cases irrelevant. Something has to happen soon or we might have an arab spring right here in America. Both sides of politics have repeatedly failed us. I dont know where its gonna end up but somethings gotta give. God Bless America!

No matter who got us into this conflict or out of it we all must never forget the sacrifices our armed forces made and their families. Especially those who died serving their country. God bless them.

Thomas ; No one is forgetting our great troops EVER. But the tragedy is that our great troops are used by our slime bag politicians for no good reasons . Think Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq. Clearly our political slime bags learned nothing from Vietnam where 58000 of our troops were killed , and about 2 million Vietnamese were killed in that WAR. Notice in recent days these slime bag politicians refer to the WAR in IRAQ as a "Military Mission" while conducting their staged muted ceremony to end the IRAQ war, This ceremony took place in a secured antiseptic concrete yard in Baghdad.. There were no cheering flag waving masses. As opposed to Shock -n-Awe when we rained down bombs and missiles on Baghdad and the rest of IRAQ. And the then idiot Pres Bush announced "Mission Accomplished" while standing on a deck of a carrier in front of that stupid banner. "Mission Accomplished". Yet the IRAQ war continued for 8 more years after that PR propaganda event on the carrier... Slime bags all , but the question is how do the American people change this war mongering mind set. Kick out all these slime bags and replace them with what , a new crop of the same breed.. Sadly that will not happen so prepare yourselves for the next WAR which they will start. Does IRAN comes to mind ?
