Talk Back: From Joe's Corner to Subway?
Earlier this week we reported on the upcoming opening of a Subway Cafe, which is moving into the space once occupied by Joe's Corner Cafe, a coffeehouse and lounge nestled in the corners at Gatelot Avenue and Hawkins Avenue. We asked the Sachem community if they thought the Subway Cafe, which plans to offer a similar ambience to Joe's would be good for the community.
From Jenn WZ via Facebook: "Great, another subway. We don't have enough if them."
From Janet King Gizzi via Facebook: "I think it's great it will bring in the additional business needed to keep afloat. There are no local subways within a few miles of that area. Support you local small businesses."
From David Cook via Facebook: "theres a subway on portion road about a mile and half from this area but nonetheless this is not the same type of establishment as mentioned in an earlier comment. It would however be nice to see a business flourish in that location being that ever since sachem closed campus no one seems to get good business there."
From Danielle Renee via Facebook: "I'm pretty bummed. I liked Joe's."
Talk Back: Thoughts on the 12-12-12 Concert?
On Wednesday, Patch live-streamed the 12-12-12 concert, an aid concert that benefited the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund. The concert was a veritable who's who of the music industry, from Paul McCartney, to Kanye West, to The Who and Billy Joel. We asked for your reaction, both on Sachem Patch and on our Facebook page, and it looks like the Long Island boy has his fan base on lockdown.
From Linda Campagne Felice: "The piano man!"
From Michele Green Lashuk: "Billy Joel!!! By far!!!"
From Joe Corb: "Is that even a question? Billy Joel!"
From Susie Q Lipani: "BILLY JOEL! His performance was PHENOMENAL! He is a LEGEND! The master of music"
From Florentina Hidalgo-Renshaw: "Billy Joel & Paul McCartney. Two classy acts that acted their age and weren't jumping around like 60 year old fools trying to look and act like 20 year olds."
Suffice to say, Billy Joel carried the vote by a landslide, with some mixes of The Who and Sir Paul. One overwhelming consensus: There is no love in the Sachem community for Kanye.
