Community Update

Good evening,

Please vote NO on June 18th!

The Sachem School Board did a great disservice to it's students tonight. It voted on a tax-cap budget that puts athletics over academics. Sachem is choosing to spend tax-payer money on extra-curricular activities while cutting Academic programs from the school day. It is an insult, a travesty, and a slap in the face to the students and residents of Sachem.

I once was proud to call myself a resident of Sachem, now I am ashamed to be associated with a school district that thinks more of it's sports teams then it does of it's Kindergarten students.

While full-day kindergarten is cut, kindergarten aides eliminated, elementary class size is increased, Librarians are eliminated, the GATE program is eliminated, ALL sports remain intact, ALL music programs remain untouched, Cheerleading, Arrowettes, and other clubs suffer a 50% reduction. Should not all activities that take place outside of the school-day, that ALL students do not participate in be cut before the education of our children are attacked? I say they should be! Our public schools are not stepping stones to the major leagues, but preparation for society. Our students need to be prepared for college and careers. They need the academic programs that will allow them to develop their intellect.

Please pass this along to EVERYONE you know and post it on Facebook and any other site where people will see it.

Thank you,
A disheartened Sachem resident
