NBTY Helps Bring a Happy Holiday to Long Island Families

More than 150 children and families will have a brighter holiday season, thanks to the help of Associates of leading global wellness company NBTY.

Working through the Salvation Army’s Angel  Tree program, NBTY, Inc., (“NBTY”)  a manufacturer and distributor of high-quality vitamins and nutritional supplements, has once again made it possible for gifts to be distributed to families in need this holiday season.

NBTY has participated in the Angel Tree program for six years. This year, 90 NBTY Associates took part in the program, which provides gifts of new clothing and toys to thousands of children who otherwise might not have anything for the holidays.

“NBTY Associates have embraced this program from the first year that we participated,” said Karla Packer, Senior Vice President of Human Resources at NBTY.  “It brings all of us great joy to be in a position to help others and to give them a much needed helping hand this holiday season.”

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, roughly 46.5 million people were stuck living at or below the poverty line in 2012. In the Salvation Army’s annual report for the same year, the organization states that it was able to help roughly 30 million people.

The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program provides new clothing or toys for children of needy families through the support of donors. Found in local companies and corporations, Angel Trees are decorated with numbered paper angel tags with the first name, age and gender of a child in need of presents. Contributors remove one or more tags from the tree and purchase appropriate gifts for the child or children described on the tags.
