The Healthy and Fit Workplace Award is given to a Long Island-based organization “for its ongoing commitment and dedication to promoting a healthy workplace, and encouraging employees and families to pursue wellness and maintain healthy lifestyles, and by offering opportunities such as physical activity and/or challenges, nutrition counseling, smoking cessation help, preventive care education, stress management and volunteerism. “

In its submission, NBTY provided information about a wide variety of wellness initiatives, some of them more traditional, such as medical insurance, dental insurance, flexible spending accounts, tuition reimbursement, free flu shots, flexible working arrangements and paid time off (vacation, sick and personal days).  The company also offers an array of more contemporary things, such as free exercise classes, on-site fitness centers, birthdays off, company-paid participation in certain 5K and other races, discounts on vitamins and supplements, free turkeys and fruit baskets, weight loss programs and an Associate website full of health and wellness research, articles, recipes and tips.
