The Shattering of Reagan's 11th Commandment and the GOP Primary

Ronald Reagan popularized the idea of the 11th commandment. This idea that no Republican shall speak ill of another, has been lost in this current Primary season.

For those that don't know, when Ronald Reagan was in office he popularized the idea of the Republican 11th commandment. Although not originally his idea, the concept became attached to him and it became known as Reagan's 11th commandment. Under this standard, Republicans say "thou shall not speak ill of another Republican".

This concept has stuck with Republicans and for the most part they haven't strayed from the idea. It has been said the Republican primary is a place where the candidates focus on ideas and principles. While their counterparts focus on personal attacks and inter party chaos. Although in this current primary, has the 11th commandment been forgotten?

It seems that each new Republican primary is garnished with ongoing assaults on each of the candidates. Granted things such as Herman Cain's extramarital affairs and Newt Gingriche's multiple marriages have probably been brought to life by a liberal leaning media. But things such as Mitt Romney's experience with Bain Capital, as well as Gingirche's experience with Freddie Mac have been brought to debates by fellow republican candidates.

Each debate is not focused on the issues at hand and the idea of defeating President Obama. Instead this current race is focused on attacking the others running. This is exactly what President Obama is hoping for, and the more the candidates attack each other, the more ammunition Obama has to use during the general election. In order to deafeat president Obama, the Republicans will have to gather behind one candidate soon and stop wasting their funds, before it is too late.
