Former Sachem Library Director Catherine Romanelli (1925 - 2013)

Catherine Romanelli, director of Sachem Public Library from 1983 to 1996, passed away on October 29th after a lengthy illness.

During her tenure as library director, Mrs. Romanelli became a towering figure in the library community. She oversaw the first expansion of the library and the tripling of library circulation.  She instituted Long Island’s first automated circulation system and automated card catalog. 

Mrs. Romanelli’s professional achievements included presidency of the Public Library Directors Association of Suffolk County, membership on the Executive Board of Long Island Library Resources Council, appointment to the Sachem Community Education Advisory Council, and the Islip Council for Inter-Governmental Cooperation.
