Brookhaven Celebrates Hanukkah with Menorah Lighting

Rabbi Mendy Goldberg runs festivities, guests sing songs, enjoy refreshments.

On Wednesday, Town of Brookhaven Supervisor Mark Lesko celebrated Hanukkah at the annual Community Menorah Lighting ceremony in the lobby of Town Hall.

The event, which was attended by over 100 residents, was led by Rabbi Mendy Goldberg of the Lubavitch of the East End in Coram.

Guests enjoyed traditional Hanukkah songs and stories, entertainment and refreshments, including hot latkes and donuts.

“I thank Rabbi Goldberg for sharing this special night with our residents,” said Lesko, in a statement. “Hanukkah is a time to celebrate the triumph of light over darkness and help spread the word about peace and tolerance in the community. It’s a lesson that we all should live by and teach to our children.”

"It was great to see such a beautiful crowd enjoy the Chanukah festivities," added Rabbi Goldberg, in a statement. "It gives us a better appreciation to the meaning of Chanukah as we celebrate the victory of  light over dark, goodness over evil, just as the menorah lights increase each night. Lubavitch of the East End is proud to continue to serve as the conduit of bringing joy to the entire community."
