Ronkonkoma Menorah Temporarily Fixed Following Damage

Candle lighting ceremony being held Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

The menorah at Raynor County Park in Ronkonkoma has been temporarily fixed following Monday's discovery that it has been damaged.

Paul Weber, who discovered that two of its arms were removed and some bulbs broken Monday, fixed it Tuesday. A candle lighting ceremony is set for 5:30 p.m. being led by Rabbi Moss of the B'Nai Israel Reform Temple of Oakdale.

"We just wanted to show whoever vandalized it that we are stronger than they are," Weber told Patch.

The two arms that were removed by whoever damaged the menorah have been temporarily replaced with slightly longer arms, and Weber said that the chamber will have the next year to do a permanent replacement. With this fix, the menorah will be able to complete the seventh and eighth nights of Hanukkah.

The investigation of the damage is ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
