Sachem Residents Invited to Take Part in Sustainability Effort

Public meeting set for March 5 at Islip Town Hall.

Sachem residents are invited to be part of a new Long Island sustainability plan developed through a Cleaner, Green Communities grant being led by the Town of North Hempstead and funding from the New York State Energy and Research Development Authority.

The sustainability plan will focus on greenhouse gas reduction and job creation within the topic areas of: water management, waste management, community development & housing, energy and transportation, land use & livable communities. The eight-month planning process will be completed by the end of April.

There will be a meeting for Suffolk County residents interested in participating on Tuesday, March 5, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Islip Town Hall West, 401 Main Street Islip.

An East End meeting is scheduled for Southampton Town Hall from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6.

Residents are invited to attend, be informed of the progress of the plan and offer input on what they would like to be included.

The steering committee of the Long Island region consists of The Town of North Hempstead, Vision Long Island, the Sustainability Institute at Molloy College, the Community Development Corporation of Long Island and AECOM. These groups will be presenting the work completed so far and soliciting input from all Long Island residents.
