SYAG Lacrosse Weekend Roundup

1st Grade vs Bayport - Blue Point:

On Saturday, the SYAG first grade boys lacrosse team was defeated by a more experienced Bayport-Blue Point team.  The SYAG team is made up of boys who are mostly new to the game and held their own against a team who has played together for 3 years.  The boys put forth an amazing effort.

Zack Marko scored 2 goals and hit the post on several other shots. James Coramilas had an outstanding game and had several shots hit the post. Zack Marsh on defense was stellar and played his best game of the year. His hard work and defensive positioning stood out. AJ Carlo was once again steady and sound on defense. AJ proves every game to be mature beyond his years and is lethal on his poke checking skills.

The coaches are extremely proud of the boys and the growth they have shown this year.

2nd Grade vs Smithtown (Red):

On Sunday, the 2nd grade team played their most well-rounded, and complete game of the season, which resulted in an 8-5 win over Smithtown (Red).

On the defensive end of the field, Matthew McCarthy turned in a great goaltending performance, making 6 saves, as well as adding several excellent clearing passes.  Jeremiah Slaven, Niko Gentile, Jason Kassis, and Cody Suhr all made great defensive plays to cause turnovers for SYAG.

The team showed lots of hustle in getting to ground balls.  Leading the way were Justin Ortiz recording two ground balls, to go along with ground balls by Aaron Young and Jack Meadows.

On offense, the team passed the ball around to create scoring opportunities.  Stephen Kirk recorded an assist, and goals were scored by Slaven, Suhr, Kyle Price, Shane Marconti, and two each for Ortiz and Nick Marotta.

If the team continues to play with the determination and hustle they showed this past Sunday, they should be successful the rest of the season.
