Pre-K/Kindergarten:
SYAG's Pre-K/K team lost a tough game on Saturday, to an older Pat-Med team. SYAG was down early in the first half 4-0, but in the second half they put forth a herculean effort and scored 2 goals and held the opposition to 1 goal. Goals were scored by Anthony Carlo and Zachary Marco, and in goal both Billy Paczkowski, and Luke Tiedemann played exceptionally well and kept the team in the game.
1st Grade:
The 1st graders used a total team effort on Saturday to overcome Bayport-Blue Point (white). Each player displayed hustle, hard work, and great positioning to play what would be the team’s best game of the season to this point. On offense the Saints passed the ball well, which resulted in goals from 6 different players. Frankie Angilly, Kyle Price, Andrew Macchio, Nick Meoni, Nick Marotta, and Stephen Kirk each recorded a goal.
The all out team hustle led the team to collect 21 ground balls, including ground balls by Jeremiah Slaven, Alex Singh, Freddie Krisko and Aaron Young. The Saints had a great day at the faceoff ‘x’ as well, with wins by AJ Torres and Aidan Kilpatrick.
The defense was anchored by strong goaltending. Matthew McCarthy was once again stellar making 6 saves. Connor Fernandes took over between the pipes in the second half and was equal to the task making 3 saves. The goalies were helped by stout team defense, which included strong play by Nolan Snyder, Jason Kassis, and Niko Gentile.
All of the coaches and parents were proud to see the team play such a strong game, and know they will continue to excel for the remainder of the season.
2nd Grade vs. Connetquot:
There’s no other way to start a Mother's Day then to be out on the lacrosse field on what turned out to be a beautiful day. First Happy Mother's Day to everyone and thanks for bringing the kids out on your special day. Now down to business, the sun was out and it was hot. The SYAG boys came out of the gate fully charged and played a great game, winning 6-3 over a very good Connetquot team and coming up with 36 ground balls. Once again Brandon Pazienza had another outstanding day between the pipes coming up with 7+ saves. Dalton Lawrence, Shaun Ayers, and Aaron Singh came up big on defense coming up with a combined 10 ground balls and Shaun taking the ball from end to end to bury it in the net for a goal.
The kids are really starting to understand the concept of the game and how to move the ball around. The play of the game started when Alex Scichilone picked up a ground ball after a nice take away in the defensive restraining box , and passed it across and up the field to Peter Ferrizz who was cutting down the field at the midfield line, who then took the ball, drew a defender and passed it JT Arena who was cutting to the goal and was able to get the ball past the Connetquot goalie, who also came up with some big saves this day.
Ghavin McArthur came up with 3 ground balls and won his first face off. JT Arena lead the team with 2 goals/5GB, Peter Ferrizz, Alex Scichilone, and Dillon Osorio each scored a goal and came up with a combined 11 ground balls. Brian Moir and Nick Giorgi continue to step up to the plate game after game as new comers and the coach stated that these two players are going to be a big part of the team next year with a little experience under there belt.
6th Grade:
On Mother’s Day, the 6th grade team notched their first victory of the season, a 4-2 win over North Fork.
