Where Were You When Hurricane Gloria Hit?

We asked and you answered.

With Hurricane Irene quickly approaching Long Island, it should remind you about other terrible storms in the history of the area. One of those being Hurricane Gloria in 1985.

We asked Sachem Patch Facebook followers what they remember from that hurricane ... here are some responses:

Keri Licata: Home having a hurricane party with cousins, aunt, uncle, neighbors! It was fun!

Laurie Wood: I was 7 years old. I remember that we had an aluminum shed in our backyard and I watched it fly up the block. I thought it was funny at the time.

Rosemarie T. Hayman: I was pregnant with my first child at the time. Had the big picture window in the living room taped. Lost electricity for days but had gas stove and hot water, so everyone came to our place for showers.

Jackie Burns Coope: I was a senior in high school and Sachem was closed for five days! I was home with my mom and dad and watched the tops of trees crack off and fly through the sky!

Jen Reese Conti: It was the beginning of my senior year at Sachem. I was home in Lake Ronkonkoma, watching the trees fall around the neighborhood, had no power for a week and no school!
