Village Market Keeps Customers Coming Back

Holbrook grocery store has homey feel with great service.

In a world dominated by Super Stop & Shops, Waldbaums, King Kullens and Whole Foods it may make you pause to wonder how a small grocery store can survive.  The Village Market Grocery located on Main Street in Holbrook makes it look easy.  They are conveniently located near the intersection of Furrows Road and Main Street and the store is never without a steady stream of customers.

Before even entering the store, signs plastering the windows of the building advertise some of their many sales including chicken breasts and spare ribs for $1.99 a pound, which is something that is typically unheard of in supermarkets. Signs also indicate that the fresh fruit and vegetable inventory are "farm fresh" and delivered daily.

Upon entering the store you immediately notice that what this store lacks in size, it makes up for in small town feel.

The produce section is vast, and as promised by the sign every piece of produce looks fresh and everything is reasonably priced. For those who are conscious of eating organically, the Village Market offers a small selection of organic produce.

Walk up and down the aisles and you will find that though as few of them as there are, they have everything you need in a supermarket. One could easily do their weekly food shopping at the Village Market, allowing them to venture into regular supermarkets only for the few items they may not be able to find there.

Surprisingly the meat section of the Village Market was just as large as one in any supermarket. They had a large selection of chicken, beef, pork and veal, including specialty products such a pinwheels and already seasoned roasts. Additionally, the Village Market has signs posted everywhere in the meat section indicating that any meat can be cleaned and cut to the customers liking free of charge.

The deli section of the Village Market offered a wide variety of deli choices including many Boars Head products. For the more budget conscious shopper they also offer a full line of lesser known brand cold cuts at extremely low prices.

What truly sets the Village Market apart from the rest is that customers shopping in the store are not just any old customer.

The employees know many of the customers by name and likewise nearly every customer often knows the names of the employees.  Whether they are waiting for a cold cut order or are on-line to pay, conversations between employees and customers are always heard.

The truth behind the sustainability of the Village Market is simple: people keep coming back because they feel at home here.
