Traffic Study Underway at Five Corners

Could lead to roundabout being placed at busy intersection.

The Town of Brookhaven is considering implementing a traffic roundabout at Five Corners in Lake Ronkonkoma.

A representative from Town Supervisor Mark Lesko's office confirmed today that a study is currently underway.

The study, which is being conducted by the Town's Traffic Safety bureau, is meant to assess alternatives at the busy intersection located at the corners of Hawkins Avenue and Smith Road.

For months a newly constructed vacant building has sat idle at Five Corners. While the Village of Lake Grove could not confirm or deny that the building will house a coffee shop, multiple sources suggest the shop will indeed be a coffee house and open sometime in November.

The owner, Joseph Ainoris, whose company Gencon Construction also built the facility, has not returned multiple messages.

Sachem Patch will post more updates as they arrive.
