Town of Brookhaven Traffic Advisory

Patchogue-Holbrook Road to undergo inspection Tuesday and Thursday.

The eastbound and westbound Long Island Expressway mainline will be closed to motorists on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 and Thursday, April 14, 2011 during off-peak day time hours in Holbrook, according to the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT).

Travel lanes will be closed between 10 a.m. and noon, and 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to inspect the Patchogue Holbrook Road/CR 19 Bridge over the LIE, the NYSDOT said in a statement.

Depending on the progress of the bridge inspection, the right, left, and/or LIE-HOV lane, and associated entrance and exit ramps will be closed in the vicinity of the LIE Exit 61, the NYSDOT said.

The NYSDOT issued the following statement:

Motorists will be warned in advance of the lane closing via overhead electronic message signs.  The NYSDOT INFORM Traffic Management Center will re-time and monitor the LIE south and north service road traffic signals to allow maximum, safe operational traffic flow on the LIE service roads throughout the mainline travel lane closings.  However, motorists are urged to use alternate routes to avoid delays.

Travelers who must use the LIE in this vicinity are reminded to drive carefully through the work zone and obey the posted construction speed limit for their safety as well as the safety of the highway work crew.  Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for exceeding the speed limit posted in a work zone.  In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.
