Sachem North Rolls Over Floyd

The Sachem North Boys Lacrosse team played in peak performance Wednesday with a dominating 11-1 victory over William Floyd at Fred Fusaro Stadium.

The Flaming Arrows defense took a shutout deep into the third quarter before finally yielding its one and only goal to the Colonials. Included in the defensive stifle was a two-minute, two-man-down penalty kill.

“The defense is playing very well right now,” said Coach Jason Mauro. “The kids overall are doing a great job and keep getting better.”

Offensive contributions were well distributed also. Matt Battelli, Shane Deboer, Sean O’Brien and Jimmy Hoffman all had two goals on the day, while Mike Calvagna, Joe Caridi and Evan Petillo pitched in with a goal each. Goaltenders John Quinn and Dylan Ciolino combined for 11 saves in the win.

Sachem improved to 4-3 in league play; 5-3 overall. But according to Mauro, the team is focusing on improving with each game.

“You can’t get too high or too low because we play every other day. [We] just look to play hard and improve,” he said.

The Flaming Arrows face a tough challenge on Friday when they travel to Smithtown East, who is 6-1 in league play.

Next Game: Sachem North at Smithtown East; April 19, 4 p.m.
