Sachem North Graduates Class Of 2013

The Sachem High School North Class of 2013 held its graduation commencement on Saturday on the turf field at Fred Fusaro Stadium.

Sachem North graduated more than 500 students on a sun-soaked morning with commencement addresses from Sen. Charles Schumer, Principal John Dolan, Valedictorian Francesca Barella, and Class President Louis Cappola.

Barilla quoted from Ferris Beuller in her speech. "Life moves pretty fast," she said. "If you don't stop and look around you could miss it."

"I believe the class of 2013 will go wherever it wants to go," stated Cappola in his address.

"Go forward," advised Superintendent James Nolan. "Be humble. Be good people."

The graduation's most emotional moment came when Nick Franzi, a graduate battling a rare form of leukemia, was wheeled to the podium to receive his diploma. He received a standing ovation from his classmates and the packed stadium crowd.

Patch will have more coverage on both Sachem high school graduations in the coming days.
