Sachem East Field Hockey Player Named to National Team
Junior Flaming Arrow nabs a spot after a week of tryouts at UMass in Amherst.
Sachem East varsity field hockey player, Katie Trombetta, has secured the honor of a place on the USA Under 17 National Junior Field Hockey team and will travel to California during Christmas break to train with the team.
won the spot after a four-day tryout held at UMass last month. Out of 100 athletes that competed, Trombetta was chosen along with roughly two-dozen others. The secured position means that Trombetta will travel to the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA in January 2013, according to the release put out by the Team USA Olympic Committee. Following that camp training session, Trombetta could be selected to a travel team that will go on an international tour later that spring.
Trombetta, an incoming junior, has been playing varsity field hockey since the eighth grade and helped East secure its against Mamaroneck in the fall of 2011. Last season she scored 15 goals and 14 assists en route to All-County, All-State and All-Long Island honors.
