The Sachem East Softball team lost to No. 3 Longwood in the Suffolk Class AA playoffs today.
Longwood capitalized on some defensive errors and got some power hits off pitcher Marissa Smith to help build a 6-0 lead they would never relinquish.
East seemed to be putting together a bit of a rally on top of the 7th, but a pickoff at third helped Longwood secure the shutout.
Sachem East will play the loser of the Hauppauge vs. Bay Shore game, which was called in the 3rd inning due to rain. East can still bounce back from the loss with a victory over the next opponent.
"We're not out of it yet," Coach Ralph Forman said.
