Sachem-Brentwood Football Game Picked For Great American Rivalry Series

Week 7 contest on October 21 this season will have special meaning.

Sachem North’s football game against Brentwood on October 21 has been selected as a “Great American Rivalry Series” game, according to Sachem Athletic Director .

The “Great American Rivalry Series” is presented by the United States Marines Corp.

According to their website, select schools from around the nation are invited to participate in the Rivalry Series.

“The Rivalry Series not only celebrates high school football, it embraces it's excitement, traditions and history,” their website said. “A donation is given to the host team for their football program as well as two college scholarships awarded to a player from each team in the rivalry.”

 “To be involved in a great American rivalry game is a special honor that our current players, as well as our alumni, are extremely proud of,” said Sachem football coach . “The Sachem-Brentwood football game has always been a respectful competition played with emotion and determination. There have been many special moments in the match-up over the years and we look forward to this years rendition of this rivalry.”

Sachem plays Brentwood Friday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m. at home under the lights at . It is a Week 7 game that could have playoff implications.

Each year the Sachem-Brentwood game is played in honor of , who was the voice of Sachem football for many years and a business teacher at the high school.

Sachem leads the all-time series, 30-14-1, since they started playing in 1972. The Flaming Arrows have outscored Brentwood, 887-671, all-time and have played all but two years (1994 and 2005) since the inception of the rivalry.

Sachem is 3-0 in the last three contests against the Indians, including a playoff win in 2009, and has scored 42-plus points in each of the three wins.
