Police, Paramedics Rescue Ronkonkoma OD Victim

Police make use of intranasal Narcan program to save 26-year-old.

Three Suffolk County Police officers and the Lakeland Fire Department helped revive a Ronkonkoma man overdosing on drugs inside his home in Ronkonkoma this morning.

According to police, Fourth Precinct Police Officer Jennifer Andriano responded to the home on Calvert Avenue at around 8:15 a.m. after receiving a 911 call that a man had overdosed.

When Andriano got there, she immediately began to administer CPR. Meanwhile Fourth Precinct Police Officers Keith Weinberg and Daniel Sable arrived at the scene along with a first responder for the Lakeland Fire Department.

Weinberg administered intranasal Narcan and the victim regained consciousness. The 26-year-old victim was transported by the Lakeland Fire Department to Saint Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown.

The Suffolk County Police Department is participating in the New York State Department of Health pilot program involving the deployment of intranasal Narcan, a prescription drug used to reverse opiate overdoses.  Currently, the program is being used by officers in all Suffolk County Police precincts, Marine Bureau and the Emergency Service Section.
