Peacocks Headed To Holtsville Ecology Center

After escaping from pen at private home, birds will be looked after at Ecology Zoo.

Three peacocks that were removed from a private home in Port Jefferson after escaping last week, have found a new home at the Holtsville Ecology Center, according to reports.

According to Newsday, back on May 31 Port Jeff village constables had contacted the Suffolk County SPCA to alert them that three feathered friends had escaped from their enclosure and high-tailed it somewhere.

Constables tracked them down in some neighborhood trees, where they had taken residence and were making loud screeching noises. They lured the birds back to their enclosure with food, but shortly after the owner contacted police to say he wanted them removed. Apparently he had inherited the birds from a relative who previously lived at the residence.

The peacocks, one female and two males, were taken yesterday and are being prepped to start a new life at the Holtsville site. They are temporarily being held in quarantine before they're to be acclimated to the Holtsville Center's seven other peacocks, Newsday reported.
