Willner also announced that the library has been a Letterboxing site since June and has recently become a GeoCaching site. She explained that the library's coordinates will take an individual within 10 feet of the site and from there additional clues will help them find the object. To date seven people have found the cache hidden at the Sachem Library, the first person, Willner added, found it within one and a half hours of hiding the cache.

Carol Brand, the assistant director of the library, featured the Teen Services department in her report this month. She said that this year 900 teenagers have signed up for the summer reading club, which is already 39 percent more participants than last year. Brand added that currently 104 books are logged into the club a day and that 33 percent of teen books are currently checked out. Of that, the Twilight series and similar books are the most popular.

A motion was accepted that would no longer allow new DVD's (material is considered new for six months), to be checked out on Direct Access or InterLibrary loans. This motion was set forth because these items were always checked out and never on the shelves for patrons. Another motion stating that Sachem residents who do not have a permanent address will be eligible to get a local use only library card with a signed affidavit. A local use library card would not allow an individual to use Direct Access or InterLibrary loans was also accepted.

The next meeting for the Sachem Library Board of Trustees will be on Monday, September 20, 2010.
