NOTES: Sachem Public Library Meeting

Trustees discuss garden project; Fran Altemose is retiring in June.

The Board of Trustees for the Sachem Public Library met for their monthly meeting Tuesday night.

Library director Judith Willner said the Inside/Out project (the library's new garden extension) was coming along nicely and that they had received a sizeable donation in memory of Mary M. Martinez, a former employee of the library. The trustees did not wish to disclose the amount of the donation.

It was also announced that Francis Altemose, the library's head of community services, would be retiring effective June 30.  A community reception is being held in her honor on June 13 from 12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m.

Willner concluded her report with stating that the library had began the process of investigating disaster planning relative to the Information Technology Department. A generator is now in place and has been tested an initial step of the plan.

Assistant Director Carol Brand gave her report spotlighting a specific department within the library.  This month she focused on the electronic services department.  In all, the department has 13 members with three computer program instructors.

From the IT aspect Brand gave the following statistics: the library hosts 11 servers and had 178 computers- 18 multi media computes in both the childrens and teen departments, 60 public computers and 90 staff computers.  Brand also added that since January, 880 gigabytes worth of data was downloaded into their network and 70 million websites had been visited.

The revision of the Meeting Room Policy and the revision of the Public Behavior in the Library Policy were also both unanimously approved Tuesday.  Following these approvals were the unanimous approvals of the Grant Resolution, Certification of Grant Completion, Acceptance of Donation and the Personnel Report.

The Board of Trustees next meeting will take place on Monday, May 17, 2010.
