Half Hollow Hills

An accident on the LIE Thursday morning started when the driver of a Honda hit a guardrail and median before crashing into a fuel service box truck. The Ford truck overturned, spilling small propane tanks and cartons of other chemicals onto the roadway. The tanks and chemicals did not leak or cause any major safety issue, police on the scene said.

West Islip

A longtime rivalry with East Islip led to West Islip getting some major exposure on a popular New York sports talk radio show. On Tuesday’s “Boomer & Carton Show” on WFAN, co-host Craig Carton and several staffers connected with the program wore a variety of West Islip apparel as a way to mock co-host Boomer Esiason, an East Islip High School graduate and former NFL quarterback.

Sachem North senior Ruchi Shah has once again been honored for her creation and development of an all-natural mosquito repellent. And it's certainly no small honor...Shah will receive a $25,000 scholarship after being named a National AXA Achiever, one of just 10 in the nation.

Sayville teenager Kayla Stockert is advancing to the second round of competition in the MSG Varsity Talent Show after her initial performance in round one pulled in a winning number of votes.

Patchogue

Police arrested an East Patchogue man on Tuesday and charged him in the armed of a Holbrook Dunkin' Donuts last week. Ryan Trepiccione, 26, walked into the Dunkin' Donuts on Furrows Road last Thursday evening, approached an employee and displayed a handgun, police said.

Babylon Village

According to the Suffolk County Police Department, a home at 63 Wyandanch Avenue was entered and searched Tuesday night as part of an investigation into a Babylon Village resident. Christian Repetto, of Babylon, was arrested on nine counts of illegal weapons possession and drug possession.

Deer Park-North Babylon

Petrel, a girls pop-rock band, comprised of three Deer Park natives and sisters, released its debut track on iTunes last week. The sisters, Jessica, Rebekah and Destiny, made "Bombshell" their premiere song, which can be downloaded through the band's website, PetrelMusic.com and on iTunes.
