Babylon Village

A small plane landed on Route 231 in Babylon Village Thursday afternoon. A Suffolk County Police Department spokeswoman said a report of small plane landing on the roadway's southbound shoulder came into the department at around 12:53 p.m. The plane landed near the John Street exit, north of Montauk Highway. No one was injured.

Deer Park-North Babylon

A North Babylon man was killed Thursday morning when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a pickup truck in Commack, police said. Police say Anthony Jacovino, 38, was riding southbound on Commack Road shortly before 5 a.m. when his motorcycle was hit by truck, which was headed westbound on Vanderbilt Parkway.

West Islip

A new traffic light installed where Barberry Road and Wagstaff Lane intersect Montauk Highway is now operational. According to State. Sen. Phil Boyle, R-Bay Shore, state funding was secured for the installation of traffic lights at this intersection near West Islip High School. The area has been the site of accidents in which students were injured while walking to school.

Patchogue

After an eventful year, the Carnegie Library should get to settle into its new permanent location on the Sixth District Court property in Patchogue Village in June. A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new foundation took place on the 150 W. Main Street property Tuesday afternoon.

Sayville-Bayport

A possible emergency plane landing or aviation incident over Fire Island early Thursday morning did not involve any lost or disabled planes, according to the federal Federal Aviation Administration or required assistance from the Suffolk County Police Department, according to Suffolk police public information.

Lindenhurst

A Bay Shore man was arrested by Suffolk Police after he crashed his vehicle into a home and then a utility pole on Park Avenue in Lindenhurst early Thursday morning. According to police, the car Donta L. Riddick, 26, of Bay Shore, was driving caught on fire and became engulfed after hitting the pole at 3:56 a.m. on Park Avenue at East Hoffman Avenue.

Sachem

A opossum was shot in the face with a pellet gun and then dumped in a garbage pail in front of a Holtsville home last week. The opossum was found alive and is expected to survive, but the Suffolk County Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is asking for the public's help to track down who shot the animal.
