For the second time in less than a week, West Islip fire fighters battled a , this time at 30 Westminster Lane. The homeowner, who was home when the fire began, was taken to the hospital after complaining of chest pains and a headache, said West Islip Fire Chief Blaise Gemellaro. No firefighters were injured in the blaze.

An early Monday morning fire caused serious damage to a Farmingville home, officials said. The residents of the home at 5 Lidge Drive were able to escape the blaze before firefighters arrived on the scene shortly before 2 a.m.

Half Hollow Hills

Flames ripped through West Hills County Park in Melville late Sunday night. More than 100 firefighters from 10 different departments worked for two and a half hours to extinguish a large brush fire, which overtook more than four acres of woods within the park.
