News Nearby: Former Attias Flea Market Set for Demolition

Sayville-Bayport

While Target remains mum on a project to build a retail location at the former Attias Flea Market site in Sayville, the retailer has all the needed permits and approvals to begin demolition work at the site.  Islip Town planning officials say work could begin at any point within the next several months as the required permit expires mid summer.

Patchogue-Medford

The Patchogue-Medford School District’s 2013-2014 budget passed Tuesday night at the vote canvass at Saxton Middle School. The budget passed by a vote of 1660 approving to 1312 rejecting.

West Islip

West Islip’s reign as the kings of Suffolk County lacrosse came to an end Tuesday as the Lions lost 12-4 to Smithtown East. It had been a decade since West Islip had lost a Suffolk playoff game, which ironically came at the hands of a team from Smithtown in 2003.

Deer Park-North Babylon

North Babylon residents defeated a $112 million proposed school budget Tuesday. The budget received 54 percent of the vote (1,358 to 1,157), but because the proposal exceeded the state's tax cap, it needed 60 percent to pass.

Sachem

The Sachem School District's proposed 2013-14 budget failed after netting only 54% of the votes after more than 12,000 district residents turned out for Tuesday's vote. The final tally was 6,828 in favor to 5,762 opposed. While the $293 million spending plan was only .58% higher than last year's budget, it called for a 7.49% tax levy increase on residents.

Babylon Village

Bubble Learning Center, the children's store that was recently awarded a $15,000 donation by millionaire Donald Trump, was hit by graffiti overnight Sunday. The words "fraud" and "give money back" were scrawled across the Bubble window logo and wall overnight Sunday or on Monday morning, 
according to co-owner Jennifer Dellafranca.

Lindenhurst

Lindenhurst voters gave their approval to the Lindenhurst Schools 2013-14 district budget and re-elected Edward Langone and Robert Vitiello to the Board of Education. Linda Aniello and Sean Mc Neilly were also elected as new trustees to the board.
