Local Leaders Celebrate Memorial Day

A round of Memorial Day services over the three-day weekend.

Suffolk County Legislators Tom Muratore and John Kennedy spent the Memorial Day weekend honoring veterans at various community events, including a memorial service in Islandia and the Lake Ronkonkoma Memorial Day Parade.

On Saturday, May 25, both legislators joined Islandia Mayor Allan Dorman to honor fallen soldiers at the Islandia Veterans Memorial Triangle. On Sunday, May 26 they marched in the Centereach VFW Post's Annual Memorial Day parade. And on May 27, Leg. Kennedy marched with the veterans in Ronkonkoma's parade, which began on Church Street.

“I cannot think of a better way to spend this weekend than to honor the brave men and women of the armed forces who have served our country,” Legislator Muratore stated in a release. “Many have made the ultimate sacrifice, and we must never forget the price they have paid for our country’s freedom.”

"It’s an honor and a privilege to be able to recognize departed veterans from every generation," stated Leg. Kennedy. "We recognize the supreme sacrifice that they and their families have made so that we can live in a free country. We should recognize them every day."
