Halted alcohol sales Saturday evening with Irene coming quick.

The Town of Brookhaven lifted its ban of alcohol sales as of 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, according to a release from the town.

Mark Lesko, Brookhaven's Town Supervisor, issued the halt of alcohol sales at 11 p.m. Saturday with Hurricane Irene barreling towards Long Island.

The supervisor told Patch late Saturday night he had received reports of bars and restaurants in town having "hurricane parties," and decided to order alcohol sales be stopped.
