Leg. Kennedy Updates Residents On Bavarian Inn Site

The Nesconset-Sachem Civic Association (NSCA) hosted Suffolk County Legislator John M. Kennedy Jr. for an informative meeting on the future of the Bavarian Inn site.

Presently Leg. Kennedy is engaged in a battle to see the site, which has fallen into disrepair, returned to a passive park.

At issue is the county's responsibility to raze the dilapidated building at a cost of about $300,000, and certain members of county government wishing to see the property sold at auction where it can be placed back on the tax rolls.

But more than 95% of the packed conference room at the Nesconset Public Library held their hand up in favor of seeing a public park.

Leg. Kennedy stated that he has a resolution in play that would transfer the 2.5 acres of property from General Holding to the Parks Division, a measure that would pave the way to restore the property to a park.

Currently that resolution is sitting with the Ways and Means committee. It could be voted upon by the county legislature on July 30.

Meanwhile a consortium of local organizations including the Knights of Columbus, the Audubon Society and the NSCA plan to meet with County Executive Steve Bellone, "as soon as he'll meet us," according to Fred Gorman, president of the NSCA.

Patch will have more on the meeting and future developments in the coming weeks.
