Jan. 10: HS Swimming, Library Competitions and Government Offerings

Here's what's happening Monday in the Sachem community.

Check this list everyday for a glimpse at what's happening around the Sachem community ... from school events to sports games and Town of Brookhaven and Islip functions, there is a sampling of everything.

1. In the mood for high school swimming yet? Now that the season is fully underway, head down to Sachem North today to watch the boys take on Half Hollow Hills, one of the better teams on Long Island, at 4 p.m.

2. If you are in grades 9-12 and would like to be part of the 2011 Suffolk County Advanced Battle of the Books, come to the meeting at the Sachem Public Library to find out more about the program Monday from 7-8 p.m. You will also pick up copies of the books.

3. Start the New Year on the winners path by winning free coffee for the month of January. Find the Baby New Year somewhere in the center and you win free coffee for the month. Baby new year will be gone by the 14th so find him quickly. This is a Town of Islip function at the Joyce Fitzpatrick Senior Center: Brookwood Hall - 50 Irish Lane, East Islip.

4. Need some life coaching? Head down to the Rosati School of Martial Arts in Ronkonkoma and get a facelift on your future. Lisa Marie offers classes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. .

5. Each Monday at 3:45 p.m., the Town of Brookhaven offers a session for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. For more information, call 631-698-3254.
