It's Founders Week in Brookhaven

Check out many sites, seminars and open houses around the Town of Brookhaven to celebrate founders week, which kicks off April 8:

Thursday April 8th:   

-Founders Day Celebration 4-6 pm Setauket School, 134 Main Street, Setauket    What's Cooking?  Our Culinary Heritage is  this year's theme for the Setauket PTA's annual Founders Day Celebration.  The Vance Locke murals commissioned in  1951  to commemorate the history of Brookhaven will be open for viewing.

-Rocky Point Historical Society, 7:30 pm North Shore Beach Clubhouse, 55 Clubhouse Dr., Rocky Point.   Program on Dorothy Fulton, one of the original women pilots of WWII. 

Friday April 9th:   

Find out what's happening in Sachemwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

-Swan River Schoolhouse, 31 Roe Ave, East Patchogue Open 1-4 pm Hosted by The Greater Patchogue Historical Society.  Bring your family to see a 19th century school house plus additional exhibits. 

Saturday April 10th

-Lake Ronkonkoma Historical Society, 328 Hawkins Ave, Ronkonkoma. Exhibit open 10am – 12 noon.

-Hobbs Farm, 178 Oxhead Rd, Centereach will host Stony Brook University Students participating in the Annual Hunger Cleanup Day.  Come see the last working African-American farm in Brookhaven.  Volunteers welcome to assist. 12 -4 pm. 

-Moriches Bay Historical Society Museum and Thrift Shop   10am – 4pm, Havens House, 15 Montauk Hwy., Center Moriches 

-Walk Through History with Abraham Woodhull, sponsored by The Three Village Historical Society, conducted by Beverly  Tyler, 10:25 am Meet at the Caroline Church Carriage Shed, Village Green, Setauket.

-The Book Barn at the Ketcham Inn, 10 am to 4 pm.  81 Montauk Highway, Center Moriches.  Books and other treasures. 

Sunday April 11th

-Fireplace History Club, Walking tour of Brookhaven Hamlet, 2 pm.  Meet at the Memorial Triangle; a small park at the intersection of South Country Rd and Fire Place Neck Rd.  Led by John Dietz and Marty Van Lith. 

 -The Book Barn at the Ketcham Inn, 10 am to 4 pm.  81 Montauk Highway, Center Moriches.  Books and other treasures Village Green Walking Tour, sponsored by The Three Village Historical Society, conducted by Eric Waxman, 2 pm, Meet at The Village Green, Setauket (opposite the Emma Clark Library). 

Monday April 12th

-Program, John E. Gee and the Birth of Farm to Market Trucking on Long Island, sponsored by the Miller Place-Mt. Sinai Historical Society and presented by Brad Harris.  7:45 pm, Rose Caracappa Center, 739 Route 25A, Mt. Sinai. 

Tuesday April 13th

-Blue Point at the turn of the Twentieth Century, Presentation by Gene Horton, 7 pm, Bayport-Blue Point Public Library, 203  Blue Point Ave, Blue Point.

Wednesday April 14th

-Moriches Bay Historical Society monthly meeting 7:30 pm Havens House, 15 Montauk Hwy, Center Moriches.

-George Washington on Long Island, Presentation by Elizabeth Kaplan, 7 pm Emma S. Clark Library, 120 Main St., Setauket. 

Thursday April 15th

-Open House at the  Town of Brookhaven's  Longwood Estate at Ridge, Corner Longwood Rd & Smith Rd. 10 am to 3 pm.   Circa 1790 home of the William Sidney and Eleanor Jones Smith Family will be open to the public.  Includes  Ridge Schoolhouse,  Barn,  Family cemetery and 30 acre park with walking trails. Bring your lunch and enjoy it in our "Red Room" overlooking the grounds. 

Friday April 16th

-Biber Baroque Concert, Vocal & Instrumental music   7 pm, Caroline Church of Brookhaven, One Dyke Road, Setauket.
