Nicholas Demaio, 19, died Saturday after crashing his vehicle on Nicolls Road Friday afternoon.

The Holbrook teen involved in a single-car crash on Nicolls Road Friday afternoon has died in the hospital of his injuries, police have confirmed.

Nicholas Demaio, 19, had been listed in critical condition at Stony Brook University Hospital.

I was one of the first people there...i was driving home to get my kids off the bus and i saw it happen and had to pull over. I called 911 and stayed there with him untill they took him away. i was praying over him the whole time asking his angels to protect him but i guess the lord decided it best he become an angel. i am soooo sorry for his family, i have been praying for him ever since. he has been all i can think of since it happened and even though i didnt know him i am in tears right now. i was hoping i would be able to meet him soon. but i know i will be able to in the next life. but now all i can do is pray that his family will see their way through this.

Thank you all so much! But i am no angel...just a mother. and even thought my kids are young i would hope someone would be there for them if something so tragic happened to them. Angela i will be calling you as soon as i get out of work today which should be around 2:00pm. As a mother i can only imagine the thoughts that are running through your head and anything i can do or say to help ease those thoughts i am here for you.

Angela, I am David's Mom. You raised a wonderful son. An honorable young man. Someone that reflected all ther values and virtues you instilled in him. I am honored that he considered David on of his closet friends. No one can make sense of such a loss-- but I know David will take all that his love and friendship use it in his life in Nick's memory. May the Lord bless and keep you.
Carol Pizzingrillo October 01, 2012 at 02:02 PM
Ms. Marcus...what you did was a small gesture on your part, but you played the role of God by stopping and being with that young man. His family is right, you are an angel. I'm sure you'll be hugging your children a lot in these next few weeks. It's been written about a lot, that when people are very ill or severely injured, they can still hear what's going on around them. You gave Nick and his family peace. There is no pricetag on that. God Bless You.
Tara October 01, 2012 at 08:19 PM

Hi I am Nick's cousin Janine. I am so moved by the support that Nick received by strangers in those horrible moments. It is amazing people like Lori and Tara's husband that make times like this more bearable. Thank you for your kindness.
