Mike Filippone Sets Marathon Batting World Record 

At 4 a.m., he knew. 

There was no chance he was giving up. 

Mike Filippone took his last cut of the bat at 8 a.m. last Sunday morning at Phelps Lane Park and with it earned himself a place in the record books: the Guinness Book of World Records to be exact. 

The 52-year-old president of the North Babylon Youth League smacked baseballs for 24 hours straight to set the record on his third attempt at the endurance feat. 

West Islip LAX Players Raise Thousands for Newtown

After the loss of 26 students and teachers in the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy, West Islip junior girls lacrosse player Riley Hill was compelled to help. 

Hill has a younger sibling the same age as some of the students who lost their life and her jersey number happens to be 26. 

She coordinated multiple fundraising events called 'Laxin for the 26' in an effort to raise funds to help out the families affected by Newtown. Her efforts raised $3,636 and she recently presented the check to the Newton Youth Academy.

Medford Bank Walks in Fight Against Breast Cancer

Medford-based Suffolk Federal Credit Union recently participated in the LI2Day Breast Cancer Walk with their own team and a $5,000 donation. 

According to a release from the bank, the LI2Day Breast Cancer Walk organization is a nonprofit that raises funds and awareness for neighors and their families affected by breast cancer.
