First Annual Motor Parkway Parade Rescheduled

Lake Heritage Association will be celebrating Centennial Anniversary of the Completion of the Lake Ronkonkoma October 30.

A rain date for the first annual Motor Parkway Sunday Drive to Lake Ronkonkoma has been announced for Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011.

The original event was scheduled for August 7.

Vintage vehicles, 1948 and older, will parade from Deer Park Road and Motor Parkway, Dix Hills, starting at 9 a.m. to Waldbaums Shopping Center at 601 Portion Rd. in Lake Ronkonkoma.

According to the Lake Ronkonkoma Heritage Association, October 30 marks the 102nd Anniversary of the 1909 Vanderbilt Cup Race, won by the 1909 Alco-6 Black Beast Racer, which will lead the Parade.

William K. Vanderbilt marked  the completion of the Eastern Terminus at Lake Ronkonkoma and the opening of the “Petit Trianon” in 1911, 100 years ago, the Heritage Association said.
