Farmingville To Hold Throwback Event at Schoolhouse

The Farmingville Historical Society has planned an event that sends the historic schoolhouse on Horseblock Road back in time.

The Farmingville Historical Society has planned an event that sends the historic schoolhouse on Horseblock Road back in time.

On May 5 the organization will hold a tour of the schoolhouse, which closed its doors in 1929, but dates back to 1850. Community leaders have recently ignited efforts to rehabilitate the building and make it a functioning space for area art and literature students to work. They are also seeking to refurbish the historic home of Elijah Terry, the school's first schoolmaster.

At the May 5 event visitors will be greeted by music in the nearby park, Civil War reenactors and a guided look at what life was like back in the 1800s. A Chinese Auction will be held to raise funds for the projects. Historic and reproduced items will also be for sale at the event, which runs from 12 to 3 p.m.
