Easter Bunny Visits Ronkonkoma Fire Department

Area children enjoy breakfast, crafts and Easter fun.

The Easter Bunny was out today as the 6th Annual "Bagels with the Bunny" Easter Celebration was held at the Ronkonkoma Fire Department. Organized by the Lake Ronkonkoma Civic Organization, the event was definitely a treat for many children in the area.

The Lake Ronkonkoma Civic Organization is a non-profit group of volunteers who hope to improve the quality of life in Lake Ronkonkoma and neighboring areas.  Today, that was certainly the case, as the children were treated to a bagel breakfast, Easter crafts, a balloon sculptor, and an exciting visit from the Easter Bunny.

Coordinator Pat Duffield has been with the Civic Organization since its inception.  She says that the idea behind the event is to, "Bring something to the community where everyone can get together and share.  It's fun for kids as well as adults."

At only $5 per adult and $3 per child, the breakfast is very affordable.

"The cost is mostly to buy the bagels," Duffield said .

Community members called up until the last minute to reserve spots for their children at the event. On Saturday, parents and kids settled in, sitting down at designated tables with their bagels, hot chocolate and coffee from the concession table.  An arts and crafts table was open as well.

As three year old Trevor worked to construct a bunny out of Styrofoam cut outs he wondered, "Easter Bunny?"  This seemed to be the question on everyone's mind.  As one Sachem dad asked, "Just when is the Easter Bunny getting here?"

Shortly after, he arrived.  With over 60 people in attendance, the Easter Bunny was welcomed with open arms and huge smiles.  He took the time to greet every child and pose for pictures.

"This is a tradition every year," Sachem mom Colby said.  "It's nice to see everyone from the community come together.  Even as the kids get older and may not 'believe' they still come out and take pictures with the Easter Bunny."

The happy looks on the faces of the kids and parents indicated the success of the breakfast.
