Crime Report: Phone Scam Attempt, Car Burglary

A look at recent crime in Holbrook.

The following information was culled from the Suffolk County Police Department's automated reporting and arrest database.

Holbrook

  • Police received a call about an attempted phone scam of a woman on Trail Blazer Court on July 22. According to police the woman received a phone call in the afternoon from a man claiming that her father was injured and was being held in exchange for cash. The woman reportedly drove to an ATM, but was told by a good Samaritan not to pay anything until she called police. She called at around 3:30 p.m. and was able to determine that her father was fine. The investigation is ongoing.
  • Police responded to a grand larceny on July 19 at around 6:45 p.m. According to police a woman had parked her 2011 Nissan possibly unlocked in the back parking lot of Grundy Avenue Elementary School and left the vehicle unattended. When she returned she discovered that someone had opened the car door and stole a Motorola Droid, cash, a checkbook and credit cards. 
  • Police answered a call for harassment on July 15. According to police a resident on Avis Drive received a text message at around 10:30 p.m. from a known person and called police after feeling threatened by the message. 
  • There were no arrests for serious offenses in Holbrook.
