Crime Report: Bizarre Break-In

A look at recent crime in Farmingville.

The following information was culled from the Suffolk County Police Department's automated reporting and arrest database.

Farmingville

  • Police responded to a bizarre incident on July 11. According to police at around 3:20 p.m., a resident on Pinelawn Avenue was standing outside of his apartment when he was approached by an unknown male. The man asked the complainant for a cigarette, but when the complainant said he didn't have any, the unknown suspect became agitated. According to the report, the man ran past the complainant, broke through the front door of his apartment and locked himself inside. He continued to make threats at the complainant from inside the apartment. No items were taken, but damage was done to the apartment's door jamb, lock plate and door trim. 
  • Police answered a call for a double grand larceny that occurred at Waverly Avenue School on July 12. According to police they received two calls at around 5:30 p.m. after two separate complainants discovered items had been stolen from their vehicle while it was parked on Waverly Avenue near the soccer fields. The first complainant reported that the window of the complainant's Honda CRV was broken and a pocketbook with credit cards and a phone was stolen. The second complainant stated that the window of their Honda Odyssey was broken and cash, and a pocketbook with credit cards was stolen from the vehicle.
  • Police responded to a burglary on July 13 at around 8 a.m. According to police a resident on Columbus Avenue called 911 and reported that the contents of their home had been stolen, including furniture and appliances. The investigation is ongoing. 
  • There were no arrests for serious offenses in Farmingville this week.
