Community Offers Ideas On Bavarian Inn Site

Comments offer multiple uses for County-owned property.

Recently Patch reported on Suffolk County's recent acquisition and possible plans for the 2.5 acres of land where the old Bavarian Inn now sits in disrepair.

Suffolk County Leg. John M. Kennedy has lobbied in favor of seeing the building torn down and the site restored to a passive park. But some Suffolk leaders are considering placing the property on the auction block for private sale.

We asked the community how they would like to see the land used, now that the county has possession of the deed. From a skate park to a dog park, here's what some of you said, both in our comments section and on our Facebook page:

Bryan Fallier: "Hockey rink and basketball court! Would be great right on the lake"
Crystal Kriegsman: "something else other than a kids park.. there's like 5 kids parks within the vicinity."
Jessica Hoglund: "Turn it into a beach front..... Too close to the water for a park, small private beach beach front might make more sense"
Fran Schimmoller Farley: "spray park & or catering hall. Needs to be different than what we have already & also low maintenance so NOT to burden tax payers. GO GREEN!"
Steve Koferl: "Boat, kayak, paddle boat rental facility...fish hatchery...........fishing docks.......or just tear it all out....raise Smithtown blvd to allow water to pass under....this could help alleviate water runoff into the low lying neighborhood just north"
Anthony Mazzuchelli: "A nice skate park would be nice!!!!"
Michele Rosado-Gulla: "No parks unless its a dog park. That would be nice."

Let's keep the conversation going. If the county did auction the property to a private developer, what would you like to see there? A cafe? A used bookstore? Let us know in the comments section.
