Captured: Dangerous Crash
Patch reader captures aftermath of motorcycle crash over Fourth of July weekend.
This photograph was forwarded to Sachem Patch by Laurie Signoretti Coffey, depicting a downed motorcycle at the intersection of Johnson and Ocean Avenues in Ronkonkoma.
According to police the accident occurred on July 6 around 12:45 p.m., when a 2007 GMC was travelling north on North Ocean Avenue. Police say the GMC driver attempted to make a left-hand turn in the 7-Eleven at the intersection with Johnson Avenue when the vehicle struck a 1979 Harley Davidson driven by Daniel Monteleone, 62, of Holtsville.
Monteleone was rushed to Stony Brook University Medical Center where he was listed in serious condition. According to a hospital official he has since been admitted into the surgical intensive care unit, but the hospital would not comment any further on his condition.
The operator of the GMC was not injured in the accident and no charges have been filed at this time.
