Yesterday majority of Sachem residents voted in favor of the proposed 2013-14 budget, but not the super majority of 60% needed to pass because the tax levy exceeded the tax cap. Here are some figures from last night's vote.
Total voter turnout: 12,588
Budget vote: 6,826 YES/ 5,762 NO
Majority percentage: 54%
- Tamarac Elementary had the highest turnout: 1,467
- Tecumseh Elementary had the lowest turnout: 768
- Hiawatha majority voted NO: 585-537
- Nokomis majority voted NO: 528-512
- Remaining 10 elementary schools passed the budget
