Benefit Being Held for Veteran in Lake Ronkonkoma

Event will take place Thursday at Windows on the Lake.

A fundraiser is being held for a veteran from Lake Grove Thursday at Windows on the Lake in Lake Ronkonkoma.

Joel Barish, 64, an Army veteran, who had a massive stroke on Nov. 26, 2010, causing traumatic brain injury and permanent paralysis on the left side of his body, is no longer able to walk or care for himself, and is dependent on help from others, according to his family.

The fundraiser's website said he was in the hospital for three months and has been in a nursing home/rehab center for the past eight months.

All of the proceeds from this event will go directly to the Barish family, to help reduce some of the expenses associated with his continuing care.
