Barret Beyer Still Alive and Cooking

Last night on Fox's "Hell's Kitchen," Class of 1994 Sachem alum Barret Beyer did not have his finest hour, but still survived to cook another week.

Picking up from the cliffhanger last week in which host Gordon Ramsay demanded the jackets of four contestants, we learned that Ramsay held the jacket out as a carrot on the end of a stick for all four. They had to earn their jackets back during the episode or else face elimination.

All four eventually did earn their jackets back and the competition remained at 15 contestants. The men took the opening challenge by cooking tastier Chinese cuisine than the women and got a chance to blow off some steam with a healthy game of paintball. The men seem to all be gunning for Dan, despite Dan's success in the opening challenge and his mastery on the meat station at dinner service.

But both the men and women fell on their faces during service. Susan dropped the rack of lamb intended for a VIP diner onto the dirty floor, causing the fish to become badly overcooked. On the men's side, Barret struggled at the fish station, and in his haste, cooked the halibut fillets with the parchment paper still attached. He also struggled with the seafood appetizer. Ultimately, Ramsay declared both teams losers.

Each team had to pick two candidates for elimination. The women chose Jessica and Susan, while the men picked Dan and Ray. Dan, who did a stellar job at the meat section, insisted Barret should be on the chopping block because of his fish blunder. Barret was forced to defend himself to Chef Ramsay.

In the end, Ramsay sent home Jessica. Now the men have to contend with a spiteful Dan, who keeps slipping the noose. The number of contestants is now down to 14. Can our Sachem alum go all the way? We'll keep you posted.
